Dive the coral-covered walls of the island

where Columbus first landed in the Americas!

This FOR WOMEN ONLY dive week in the Bahamas treats us to a world-class dive destination, a breathtaking underwater paradise unparalleled in the Caribbean.  Its little-explored and unpolluted waters make it a major attraction for SCUBA divers.  With underwater visibility easily reaching 100 feet or more, the striking topography of San Salvador's unspoiled, pristine reefs and sheer walls has the well-earned reputation for being one of the top five wall diving destinations in the Caribbean.

San Salvador Island, a member of the southeastern Bahamas Out Islands, is a sparsely populated tropical paradise of powdery, white sand beaches and warm, crystalline waters only 380 miles southeast of Miami, Florida.  For divers, "San Sal" offers amazing wall diving, shallow reefs for snorkelers and beautiful white, sandy beaches for relaxation and fun times, meeting new dive buddies and catching up with old friends.

The reefs are unspoiled, and you'll see sharks on almost every dive.  Exhilarating swim-throughs, healthy big animal populations including a wide variety of sharks, enormous schools of Jacks and Grunts, and the unique characteristics of the dive sites, all compel divers from basic to advanced to return year after year.  Shark lovers will be pleased to learn that San Salvador is home to many shark species, with Scalloped Hammerheads a favorite of wintertime divers.  Nurse and Caribbean Reef Sharks are frequent visitors, sometimes also bulls and tigers.  Colorful reef fish are abundant, including groupers, wrasse, blennies and gobies, and other reef dwellers such as turtles, shrimps, crabs and lobsters.

The majority of diving takes place among the colorful reef and walls in close proximity to the marina on the island's leeward side, so rough seas are rarely encountered.  The dive sites are almost all vertical walls, with deep drop-offs, though divers need not go deeper than 40 feet to reach the top of the reef if you prefer to keep a shallow profile.

We'll stay at the Riding Rock Resort & Marina, a family-owned property right on the ocean, where you'll enjoy three dives a day for five days, plus two additional dives, for a total of 16 dives.  Following a leisurely breakfast, divers board the boat to depart the marina at 9:00 a.m. for the first of the two morning dives.  The close proximity of the dive sites enables the boat to return to the marina between dives, allowing divers to take a break off the boats during the surface interval.  The afternoon boat departs after lunch around 2:30 p.m. for a one-tank dive.
